Memoirs of a Geisha

This movie really irritated me. I was quite intrigued for the first half of the film and then it went rapidly downhill in my estimation. Perhaps my expectations had been set too high. I was expecting a sweeping saga of a young girl, sold by her family and transformed into a geisha. Instead, the movie seemed to focus on all the usual suspects - bitching with the local rival and unrequited love and all the while the central character never seems to get over her constant naivety. The final third of the movie was utterly predictable and I was glad when it was finally finished!
